I had a friend that was a marine. He said the training for game warden was tougher.

He liked the job but the pay didn’t support his family as well as he liked. He left it for greener pastures. He went by the book but was polite and fair.

I know of another agency or 2 that I hear has recruitment problems. There used to be a line to get in them. Politicians took their retirement away, they have to buy their own ammo to train etc,..then you end up with people that shouldn't be doing them jobs when your beggin for help. At least IMO. Could be a little bit a sign of the times as well as far as finding young people that "want it" 🤷‍♂️

Can't get young ones to come to work at good paying jobs let alone at the pay GWs make then have to put up with the shit they do from both sides. Not gonna get qualified candidates on the wages they make. Pay peanuts, you get monkeys. Hire monkeys, expect a circus....

People would be surprised at the government jobs that don’t pay squat. Many stick with them for the benefits.

I could have understood it at the state level when it was 20 and out, now that it's been raised to 30 it makes little sense. Get a good paying job in the private sector, take advantage of 401 & Roth. You'll be much better off. It may be different for teachers but these guys retiring from road depts and water districts 15-20 years before even partial social security won't be staying retired.

Back to the original topic, every GW I've ever known personally had a second job in addition to the green jeans gig.
